However to help our guests in this journey we have prepared paths in our woods which take you to different reflective areas. Each area was inspired by a specific Bible text, and if you want to know which these are, a leaflet is available to explain the area. Believing that the outdoors are an important element of a retreat, we thought a place with a high sunshine-average would be preferable. And so we chose the South West of France, but not just anywhere in the Midi-Pyrenees; our chosen place would have to be close to the Camino or “Chemin” as they say here. Because pilgrimage is another way to meet with God through his creation and of course through the people you meet on your journey. Joanne, the chaplain, was born and grew up in the Netherlands. Hers is a rather international background with years spent in France, Norway, (former) Yugoslavia and Russia but it was in Scotland that she met Ian and studied Theology to become a fully ordained minister of the Church of Scotland. True to her own roots Colomba le Roc is Ecumenical in outlook and the liturgy is inspired by the Celtic tradition. Ian, a member of the SLA (Scottish Letter Cutters' Association), was born in England but after years in London found his way to Scotland where he was first trained as a stone mason. Ian creates sculptures in stone but more recently he turned his interest to wood. Ian's work is predominantly inspired by his faith. All the pieces on this website are by him. And Colomba le Roc is literally built on the rock. But it was also on the rock that the wise man built his house in one of the parables Jesus told his disciples (Mat 7:24-27) Rocamadour (see photograph) is an important place of pilgrimage North of Colomba le Roc. Joanne Evans-Boiten, dat we ons huis wilden delen met anderen. We droomden van een retraitehuis in Frankrijk dat gastvrijheid en geborgenheid zou uitstralen; een huis waar iedereen zich welkom zou weten. Ervan overtuigd dat de natuur een belangrijk element is voor elke geestelijke retraite kwamen wij tot de conclusie dat mooi weer en de mogelijkheid om voor kortere of langere tijd “op weg” te zijn een must waren. Voor ons zijn retraite en pelgrimage namelijk nauw met elkaar verbonden aangezien ze beiden een andere manier bieden om God te ontmoeten. Onze keuze viel op een klein gehucht in de Lot streek van Zuid-West Frankrijk op een paar kilometer afstand van de oudste Pelgrims route naar Compostella; de via Podiensis. Joanne is Nederlandse en heeft een brede achtergrond: ze groeide op in een Oekumenische Gemeenschap en heeft in verschillende europese landen gewoond (o.a. Rusland en voormalig Joegoslavie). In Schotland studeerde ze theologie en werd predikant van de Church of Scotland. Voor haar is het vanzelfsprekend dat Colomba le Roc een Oekumenisch retraite huis is waar de liturgie geinspireerd is door de Keltische traditie van Iona en Lindisfarne Ian, komt uit Engeland. Na jaren wonen in Londen, besloot hij richting Noorden te vertrekken. In Schotland vond hij zijn passie voor steen, volgde een opleiding als steenhouwer en werd lid van de SLA (Scottish Letter Cutters' Association). Oorspronkelijk werkte Ian alleen in steen maar sinds kort heeft hij ook de warmte en schoonheid van hout ontdekt. De kunstwerken op deze site zijn door hem gemaakt. Columba had vele gaven waaronder profetische en artistieke (hij was een uitstekend illuminator en kalligraaf). Zijn klooster op Iona was dan ook beroemd als centrum van kunst en wetenschap. Je vindt de duif dan ook afgebeeld in glas in lood ramen , op avondmaals tafels en doopfonten. Blanc naar de kleur van de kalksteen rots die hier allom zichtbaar is; zelfs in onze woon/eetkamer waar je nog goed kunt zien dat Colomba le Roc letterlijk gebouwd is op deze witte rots. Rocamadour (op de foto) is een belangrijk pelgrimsoord ten Noorden van Colomba le Roc. Maar wij denken dat een verblijf van een week ideaal zou zijn. Een retraite biedt u de gelegenheid om tot bezinning te komen, na te denken over uw levens weg en op een meer gerichte manier met God te wandelen. Maar een retraite is ook bedoeld om uit te rusten, nieuwe energie te putten en innerlijke vrede te vinden. Ieder doet dit op zijn of haar eigen manier. Echter, om onze gasten bij deze persoonlijke tocht te helpen hebben wij verschillende meditatieve “tuinen” in ons bos aangelegd. Ieder plekje is geinspireerd door een bijbel text, en mocht u dat willen dan is er een flyer beschikbaar die hierover uitleg biedt. Maar misschien wilt u liever uw eigen interpretatie aan dit kleine stukje schepping geven, en op uw manier van de stilte en de natuur genieten en dat mag natuurlijk ook. Indien gewenst kan Joanne u geestelijk begelijden. Dit kan in het Nederlands Frans of Engels. In onze nostalgische woonwagen liggen kant en klare meditaties evenals teken en ander handwerk materiaal dat u bij het mediteren kan helpen. Wij organiseren ook thema retraites die bijbelse thema’s verbinden met het dagelijkse leven in de Lot plaatselijke (denk bvb aan thema’s als “de Wijnrank” of “de Goede Herder”...). Maar gezien het feit dat wij nog maar beginnelingen zijn op dit gebied zijn wij niet altijd 100% zeker van de juiste identificatie. Convaincus que la nature est un élément important de toute retraite spirituelle, nous avons pensé que la présence de beau temps et du soleil était essentielle. Ce n'est donc pas étonnant que notre choix est tombé sur le Sud-Ouest. Mais pas n' importe où dans le Sud Ouest puisque l'endroit devait être proche du Chemin de St Jacques. En effet, pour nous le pèlerinage est un autre moyen de rencontrer Dieu à travers sa création comme à travers les personnes qu'on rencontre tout en marchant. Joanne, l'accompagnatrice, est née aux Pays-Bas. Après avoir passé plusieurs années en France, puis en Yougoslavie et en Russie, elle s’est installée à Edimbourg où elle a fait des études de théologie pour devenir Pasteure de l’Eglise d’Ecosse. Cependant notre vision est œcuménique et nous espérons que chrétiens de toutes les branches de l’Eglise ainsi que non croyants se sentirons chez eux à Colomba le Roc. Quant à notre liturgie pour les offices, elle est inspirée par la tradition chrétienne celte d’Irlande et d’Ecosse. Ian est né en Angleterre. Après avoir travaillé plusieurs années à Londres il décida de changer d’air et s’est installé en Ecosse et c’est là qu’il a découvert sa passion pour la pierre et la sculpture. Il est membre fondateur de l'association Ecossaise de tailleurs de lettres (SLA). Il a récemment découvert la beauté du bois. Toutes les sculptures sur ce site ont été créées par lui. Il fut un abbé remarquable, aimé de ses moines, respecté de tous et apprécié pour sa compassion. Il fut admiré comme scribe et créateur d’enluminures exceptionnelles. Dans notre salle a manger on peut voir que l’habitation elle-même est littéralement construite sur le rocher. Rocamadour (voir la photo) est un lieu de pèlerinage important au Nord de Colomba le Roc. Une retraite spirituelle est avant tout un temps mis à part pour marcher avec Dieu, un temps pour écouter, mais aussi un temps pour être rafraichi et retrouver la paix intérieure. Chacun(e) peut faire ce chemin à sa manière. Cependant pour vous aider, des chemins ont été créés dans nos bois. Ici et là, nous avons créés des «endroits méditatifs » inspirés par des passages bibliques. Des fiches informatives sont à votre disposition si vous le désirez. Mais si vous préférez, vous pouvez tout aussi bien vous laisser inspirer vous-même par les lieux.
